Portuguese gastronomy is rich, delicious and full of history – it is obviously something you need to try once you’re here! But after taking a Food Tour with us and getting in touch with our culinary traditions, you may feel like having a different type of food – maybe something that will inspire your next trip! Thinking of that, we made a list of our favorite restaurants in Porto that serve international food – from China do Brazil, passing by India and Cape-Verde alongside some Middle-East flavors. Let’s explore the world while in Porto!
Mondo Deli focuses on food to share with Asian, Middle-East and Mediterranean flavors. It’s all about fresh and local ingredients, privileging vegetables and spices over meat. They have a great wine menu and the best part is that every item of the decoration is for sale! The bistro-slash-design store-slash-design studio is located at Almada Street 501 and works from Wednesday to Saturday from 3pm to 12am. Better make a reservation beforehand.
Legend says that this is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Porto, opened in 1966. The true is that is serves large amounts of original Chinese food, combined with good prices. It offers special menus for group dinners, so it’s a great place for celebrations. The location is very easy to find – right beside D. Luiz Bridge, at Vímara Peres Avenue – and it’s open every day of the week.
Tambla is the nickname of the owner and chef of this small but charming restaurant, specialized in Cape Verdean food! The food is very authentic and their signature dish is Cape Verde’s national favorite, the Cachupa – a stew of hominy and beans with fish or meat. Tambla is open for lunch and dinner, closing only on Mondays, and is located at Caldeireiros Street 39 – close to the Clérigos Tower and Aliados Avenue.
This Indian restaurant is all about exotic spices and different flavors. The atmosphere is also a high point and the music sets a cool vibe! Mendi is not going to be the cheapest Indian restaurant you will find in Porto but is definitely one with the greatest quality in terms of food. It is located at Boavista Avenue 1430 and it’s open for lunch and dinner, closing on Sundays.
This is the place to find the most authentic Brazilian food in Porto! Besides typical dishes like the famous Feijoada and the hype caipirinhas, they serve snacks like pastéis de feira, coxinhas and Brazilian desserts. The staff is great and so is the atmosphere – enjoy the esplanade if the weather allows. Located at Campo Alegre Street 725, it is open from 7am to 9pm, closing on Sundays.
