The so called “Escola do Porto”, originated in 1960’s, is one of the most influential currents of contemporary architecture in Portugal, recognized all around the world. Numerous architects, like Fernando Távora, Álvaro Siza and Souto de Moura, and artists, like Salvador Barata Feyo, Júlio Resende, José Rodrigues, were related to this moment. They became important references in architecture and fine arts!
Serralves museum was designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira, our first Pritzker prize winner (the second Pritzker winner was Souto de Moura). He is the most recognize Portuguese architect in the world and has an impressive international curriculum!

This contemporary art museum is one of the most visited museums in Portugal, and one of the most relevant in the contemporary art circuit in Europe. Besides the beautiful galleries, the institution also includes a Park and a Villa. It is definitely worth a visit!
But the best is yet to come! Every year Serralves opens its doors for 40 hours “non-stop”. It allows visitors to enjoy free music, dance, theater, cinema, architecture, ecology and contemporary art! It’s Serralves em Festa!
On June 4th and 5th, visitors can enjoy performances and concerts, relax in the garden, see the exhibitions in the Museum and much more!
