We are getting closer to São João festivities!
Today we want to talk to you about Fontainhas. You can celebrate, eat, dance and party all over town, but Fontainhas is the place to go to in the “biggest night of the year” – at least that’s what we think here at AtWill.
Fontainhas is one of the typical neighborhoods in Porto. The residents are unpretentious, charismatic and very friendly! They are also very welcoming and they love to see their neighborhood packed with people partying so be ready to party and dance a lot. From there, you can enjoy the amazing view of of the Douro River and the unforgettable fireworks at midnight!

A few days before São João night, “bailaricos” – popular dancing parties – begin, and the city starts to warm up. Get there early (around 7 pm) and have a meal at one of the numerous street stands. Ask for the typical São João food: caldo verde, grilled sardines and roasted peppers, and a “bifana” – a saucy pork sandwich!

After dinner, buy a friendly plastic hammer to “defend” yourself from the “party attacks”. Not clear? You’ll understand when you’re there! Also, buy a small hot air balloon and launch it with local help… Fun guaranteed!
The atmosphere is hard to describe… You have to experience this for yourself! It’s a one of a kind holiday, the biggest party in Porto and Atwill can help you experience it like a local! Book now
