If you want to see a great art collection in the heart of the city, then you should visit Porto’s Misericórdia Museum. Located in a historical building in the hype Flores Street, this place has been serving as a headquarters for the Santa Casa da Misericórdia since the mid-16th century. The last big renovation project it underwent was designed to adapt the building to become a museum. The museum goal is to tell the history of the institution and display its collection.
The collection has great pieces of religious art: Fons Vitae, a great piece of Flemish painting; and Sacred Family, oil painting done by António Vieira in the 17th century. A visit to the museum also includes access to Misericórdia Church. This church was renovated in the 18th century by the famous Italian architect and painter Nicolau Nasoni (who designed the Clérigos Church and Tower and many other important buildings in Porto!).
Tickets costs 5€, with discounts to students, seniors and groups. One tip is to get the 11€ ticket that also includes a visit to the Clérigos Tower and to the Stock Exchange Palace (Palácio da Bolsa)!
